Working at Home

As most people know, I ventured out into the world of entrepreneurship back in February with the launch of my compnay, Cory Webb Media LLC. I have to say, it’s been great. I have kept busy, and I am still able to pay the bills.
Part of working for myself at this stage in the game is that I work at home. I love it. I love the commute (30 seconds to walk from my bedroom to my office). I love the dress code (shorts, t-shirt, shoes are optional). Best of all, I love hearing my daughter playing and laughing in the other rooms of the house and being a part of her life in a way that I could never do if I were still working an 8-5 job in an office.
However, that last benefit comes with a price…especially toward the end of the day. Usually, Lucy (my daughter) is pretty good about staying out of my office while I am working, and Carly (my wife) is pretty good about reminding her “Daddy is working right now.” But as the day wears on, it gets more and more difficult to gently remind her that daddy is working. She’s 2 1/2, so she still doesn’t quite understand the concept of work. All she knows is, daddy is in that room, and I want to play with him.
Right now, we have a pretty good system. There is a little CD player in my office and some CD’s with kids’ music. She likes to come in near the end of the day and play her CD’s. It serves 2 purposes: 1) it allows her to come in and see daddy, and 2) it keeps her occupied while I wrap up my work for the day. That usually works pretty well for about a half hour, and then she wants to get in my lap and spell her name on the computer. By then, either mommy has to intervene, or I basically have to finish working until later that night when Lucy goes to bed.
All in all, I have to say that this is a small price to pay for the freedom of working at home. I would not trade it for the world, but I would love it if I could be a bit more efficient.
Do any of you work at home and experiece similar issues? If so, how do you deal with it?
That's it. What Next?

well, my experience isn’t quit the same
I am 24 and single so I didn’t taste the parenthood yet
but I got to say I love freelancing and working from home. I strech the work hours along the whole day and spent the rest playing with my Wii , listening to my fav music or learning something new!

I agree with 100% of the *good* elements of working from home. Our daughter has just turned one … and shes starting to walking. I find it difficult at times to concentrate on work if she’s in a playful mood, but my case, mommy helps bail me out everytime.
